FOUND

These were "found;" in thrift stores, in the trash, tucked into second hand books, or even on the ground.  I know nothing of the back story of these photos and various documents other than what is reveaed in the objects themselves. There is a certain elegaiac poignancy to many.  How have they come to be discarded? What happened to these people? I have collected close to 1,000 by now.  These are a few of my favorites.

 

 Reaching down to pick  up a photo off the sidewalk is a simple and almost futile gesture. There is a kind of voyeurism and curiosity, I suppose.  There is also a strange kind of intimacy at having become the person to have found them. but mosty I collected these simply so that they would not be lost.
