JACK BANKS
DUCK AMUCK
Like most children I adored Bugs Bunny cartoons. Disney had never done much for me; but even now I feel an overwhelming sentimental affection for certain Warner Brothers shorts, a kind of pride that I am part of the species that was capable of making such truly amazing things. While I am not as sentimentally attached to Duck Amuck as I am to some others (the Bugs Bunny Operas and the singing frog, for instance) I have always thought it was brilliant. This, after all, was my first introduction to the 4th wall. The gimmick of showing the cartoon artist actively interacting with the on screen character was repeated again in “Rabbit Rampage.” These images of pulling back to show the drafting table were ones that definitely stayed with me well after childhood.
