Former colleaugue Brian Jakoby contacted me about doing some kind of drawing as an anniversary gift for his wife Allison. Very unusual. "Commissions" are rare things for me indeed, so I was very flattered that he asked me. We both seemed to think this particular moment from their honeymoon (they were in Chinatown in San Francisco) might be a good one to use as the model for the drawing.
There are lots of fun and "showy" items in it. I enjoyed doing some of the busier areas like Allison's hair, the purse strap, and the lace in her blouse. As I had predicted to Brian in our initial conversations, the plaid looked great. I always remember how much I liked the plaid pants in McDonaldland Cookies whenever I consider drawing that pattern again. Brian's facial hair and especially the close cropped hair over his ears had been a challenge. Emphasizing the highlights seemed to have been the key to the success that I had.
