DRAFT

This was a commission for my work colleague James Henry. Initially I resisted accepting as I had been bogged down in the final installment of the Helen triptych for quite some time. The weave of the Chanel suit was making me nuts. But the recent departure of some other work colleagues gave rise to events that changed my mind. I had decided to make some quick sketches for Antonia Grandberry and Everson Joseph("Food Runner") as going away presents. I had very little time so I made myself rush. In fact I did the one for Everson in 40 minutes. OK, the result is not that stunning; but I figured that trying to gain some facility in working faster might be a useful exercise. Of course I wound up taking longer than I expected. I worked from a photo that James gave me of Betty sitting in the front seat of her car: the quintessential social media selfie. The light was horrid though the hi-lights on her right side seemed interesting.I am writing this only a day after finishing but already I am feeling that I talked myself out of going as dark as I should have. The dress seems very unsuccessful; but I was trying to not obsess over detail. I do like the nose and lips ; but perhaps my favorite was the hair.
