GILL ALEXANDER
LAURA Markers on Paper, 10 x 11"

DATE COMPLETED: JUNE 16, 2015
TOTAL HOURS WORKED: 5
Talented and irrepressible former Albany Academy schoolmate Devin Dascher is master woodworker and restorer of 19th century windows (to name just a few of his talents) But on this day in June, 2015 when he asked if I wanted to "trade some art" he had been shearing llamas and alpacas (!) It seemed only fitting that I try to capture some of the spirit of his day. Pictured here is his friend Laura Krneta who is holding a llama's head (out of frame) and soothing it as her partner shears its wool. There was such a serenity in Laura's expression that one can't help but wonder if she was trying to pass it along to the frightened llama. I liked the almost crescent moon like outline of her face here. Perhaps the other reason I chose to do this for Devin is that there is a very, very old wooden window behind Laura - something one can readily associate with Devin and his talents.
